Oxford, CT - May 5, 2009— The turntable will support and rotate cylindrical rocket sections in a vertical orientation for robotic spray application of thermal protection materials. This new propulsion system will launch the Orion spacecraft which will take over human spaceflight missions after the Space Shuttle is retired.

The turntable is integrated into a NASA transporter which moves the objects into a totally enclosed spray booth. When operating, the turntable must perform reliably in a wet environment. Other challenges include surface-mounting arrangements for the rocket sections and a passageway for thermal ducting.
