Visual Marking Systems was the first certified manufacturer of High Performance Photoluminescent (HPPL) graphics in the United States and passed outside testing as part of the certification process. All of our safety signs and symbols ship with proof of certification to be in compliance with American Public Transit Association (APTA) standards.

HPPL signage is an important standard throughout APTA because it directly aids in the safety of passengers and crew. Our specially formulated HPPL is fully charged after only one hour of exposure to natural or artificial light and glows for hours in total darkness ensuring that all passengers and crew members are able to locate the nearest exit in the event of a power failure.

VMS’ markings are fully compliant with FRA regulations as well as all smoke, flame and toxicity requirements. VMS’s photo-luminescent signs also exceed the APTA standards after 90 minutes in total darkness.
