IRMA MATRIX APC System – New Dimension in Passenger Counting
IRIS-GmbH Infrared & Intelligent Sensors, supplier of sophisticated APC products, accommodates the fact that passengers have three dimensions. The solution is the “Time-of-Flight (TOF)” technology. TOF is utilizing the speed of light and produces a 3D image instead of a 2D contrast of the door area and the passengers.
The TOF based IRMA MATRIX APC system uses the light speed to measure the distance between sensor and detection object. 500 image points are provided to scan the door area and to produce 3D images in real-time. The high number of images allows for extreme high count accuracy and distinction between passengers and objects. Since the sensor “observes” the door area like an IR camera, individual body characteristics can be taken into account and persons are detected even when boarding or alighting simultaneously or in tightly packed crowds. Classification of passengers and recognition of „objects“ such as wheelchairs and/or backpacks is possible.
The speed of light is a constant, not affected by temperature, moisture, sun/shade contrast or condition of the background. Consequently, the IRMA MATRIX sensor system is immune against influences of the environs.
Passengers have three dimensions – IRIS has 3D. The additional third dimension opens up new ways in passenger counting superior to the traditional infrared.
